Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate romance and love. The origins of the festival of candy and cupid are a bit muddled.

In the 5th century, Pope Gelasius abolished a pagan fertility ritual held in February and proclaimed the 14th Saint Valentine’s Day, establishing it as a feast day on the Catholic Calendar of Saints.

The most popular story of the saint is that of a priest from Rome in the 3rd century. He secretly performed Christian weddings at a time Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men made for bad soldiers.

In the Middle Ages, the poet Chaucer was the first to link St. Valentine with romantic love.

No matter the origin, come listen to live music, dance, visit, and enjoy snacks and refreshments.
