22nd Sunday after Pentecost
CENTRAL LUTHERAN CHURCH
Welcome to Worship!

Spirit of the Living God — Spirit of the living God fall afresh on me.  Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me,  Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.  Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Repeat.

Welcome

Confession and Forgiveness

Most merciful God, we  confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.  Amen.

Gathering Song  —  Spirit Song

O let the Son of God enfold you with His Spirit and His love, let Him fill your life and satisfy your soul.  O let Him have the things that hold you and His Spirit, like a dove, will descend upon your life and make you whole.  Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.  Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.

O come and sing this song with gladness as your hearts are filled with joy, lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name.  O give Him all your tears and sadness, give Him all your years of pain and you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ Name.  Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.  Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.

Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

 Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!  O what a foretaste of glory divine!  Heir of salvation, purchase of God.  Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus:  This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long;  This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight!  Visions of rapture now burst on my sight!  Angels descending bring from above.  Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Chorus.

Perfect submission—all is at rest.  I in my Savior am happy and blest;  Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Chorus.

Sermon

Song of the Day — Open My Eyes, That I May See

Open my eyes, that I may see Glimpses of truth  Thou hast for me;  Place in my hands the wonderful key  That shall unclasp and set me free;  Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Thy will to see,  Open my eyes illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear Gladly the warm truth ev’ry-where;  Open my heart and let me prepare  Love with Thy children thus to share,  Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Thy will to see,  Open my heart illumine me, Spirit divine!

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;  he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayers of Intercession

 Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever.

Amen

Benediction

Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this Place –Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place, I can feel His mighty power and His grace.  I can hear the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face;  Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

Gathering Song  —  What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,  All our sins and griefs to bear!  What a privilege to carry Ev’ry-thing to God in prayer!  Oh, what peace we often forfeit;  Oh, what needless pain we bear — All because we do not carry Ev’ry-thing to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?  Is there trouble anywhere?  We should never be discouraged — Take it to the Lord in prayer.  Can we find a friend so faithful?  Who will all our sorrows share!  Jesus knows our ev-’ry weakness — Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?  Precious Savior, still our refuge — Take it to the Lord in prayer.  Do your friends, despise, forsake you?  Take it to the Lord in prayer.  In his arms he’ll take and shield you;  You will find a solace there.

Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Song of the Day — Blest Be the Tie That Binds

Blest be the tie that binds Our hearts in Christian love;  The unity of heart and mind Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne  We pour our ardent prayers;  Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, Our comforts and our cares.

We share our mutual woes, Our mutual burdens bear, And often for each other flows  The sympathizing tear.

From sorrow, toil, and pain,  And sin we shall be free;  And perfect love and friendship reign  Through all eternity.

Sending  Song— Now Thank We All Our God

Now, thank we all our God  With hearts and hands and voices, Who wondrous things has done,  In whom his world rejoices;  Who, from our mother’s arms,  Has blest us on our way  With countless gifts of love,  And still is ours today.

Oh, may this bounteous God  Through all our life be near us,  With ever joyful hearts  And blessed peace to cheer us,  And keep us in his grace,  And guide us when perplexed,  And free us from all harm  In this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God  The Father now be given,  The Son, and him who reigns  With them in highest heaven,  The one eternal God,  Whom earth and heav’n adore;  For thus it was, is now,  And shall be evermore.

Sending  Song— Take My Life That I May Be

Take my life, that I may be consecrated, Lord, to thee; take my moments and my days;  let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love;  take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King; take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold, take my intellect, and use ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it thine;  it shall be no longer mine.  Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love;  my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store;  take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee.
